Make your Shabbat table beautiful with one of our high quality Challah Boards!
Shabbat, the day of rest in the Judaism is celebrated every week from Friday night until sunset on Saturday night. This day of rest is made special by the festive meals that are shared with family and friends. The Shabbat table is set with fine linen and tableware and the wine and challah are placed on the table. It is customary to place two challahs on the table, on a challah board and to cover them with a challah cover. After kiddush is made the challahs are held and the blessing over bread is made. Then everyone partakes of the challah and enjoys the festive meal.
Challah is symbolic of the show-breads that were brought to the Holy temple for Shabbat, thus on Shabbat we have two challahs at every meal. The challah bread is traditionally two plaited loaves that are made of sweet dough. The challah loaves are placed on the table on top of the challah board, and after the blessing over the challah, the bread is sliced or torn, and everyone eats a piece.
At jJudaica we have a beautiful range of challah boards.
